The Most 'powerful' Pellet

Recommended Posts

What is it in a springer?

Is it really the rws hobby?

Has anyone actually tried loads of different pellets in the same gun ??

I remember in my old gun jsb exact 8.44gr were about a full footpound higher or lower (forgot) than Ftt 8.66gr (averages stated on the tin)

Thats a big power difference for .2gr !!

Has anybody gone full blown anal/ mad scientist on this subject ?????

Yes skot!!

Have a search. A chap was testing pellets using ballistics gel and garden canes to simulate bone. His posts won't be far away.

I have been through most pellets up to 26 gr and some have their uses. Provided they group.

Tried putting some of those pcp tin feckers that claim to be " the most powerful airgun pellets" through the FAC rapid.

Interesting was to say the least for the outcome!! You could clearly see them spiral down range. No grouping. No accuracy. No consistency whatsoever.

As you know Skot iv had most pellets in my 97,s and the best one,s where the jsb exact 15,89 jumbo and as you know i use them in all my rifles ,hard hitting and very very power full in 22 of course and they groop well to atvbmac

I remember hearing the Police used the old Eley Wasp as a forensic test pellet (when Wasps were a brilliant slug. They are utter shit now) They were fantastically good if your rifle liked them. Hard hitting and superbly accurate; particularly in Webley and BSA springers. I had an HW80 .22 that loved them too. That was in the days when no-one really bothered if your rifle was a pound or two over the limit. It was how responsibly you behaved with it that mattered.

tried to chrono in the house but it was having none of it.

going to go out in the morning and do it.

pretty surprised with the accuracy of the rws hobby 11.9 .22 at 34 yards

10 shots to re-lead the barrel, at the top

and then the group just down and to the left is 10 shots about as big as a 2p. there was a slight breeze aswel and I wasn't trying 100 %

these hw97's are something else!! :D

i get what the question is saying but it really depends on the gun and power theyre running at, i.e. not only different barrels but but gun to guns that are identical with tthe spring and innerds can be slightly different.

diferent makes of barrels of diferent amount and pitchs to the land (the rifling), things like ''ohhh i'll meddle with the barrel legnth to make mine a spe-shul karbine'' can crap out the power and the axxuracy, its a mathatamatical thing when cut a barrel down.

in one gun in .177 i was getting most power with magnums, then AA feilds, then daystates...i.e. heavey pellets in a pcp 'give most power' butthen the accupels gave as mutch if not more downrage hitting power.. which shouldnt happen in a pcp lol.. oh and a couple other lightweight pellets turned up over the years.

i seem to remember about two brands of heavy pellets that gave more power in a springer.. so its always 'just a rule of thimb' that pcps give more power with heavies, and springers like light pellets.

AA feilds? oh theyre just the same as the jsb's and daystates..nooooooooo thy arnt, some body cut them all in half and theyre totaly differnt 'inside'.. etc etc.

they only way to know is buy all 'available' brands and try them out. (once with a bedded in barrel, then once with a cleaned out barrel, and then when they bed in...)

what you get wont be the same as everybody else.. maybe the same as some but not all.

ohh.. and silencer to silecer change things a little too.

a good old fationed tester is shoot some plenking item and hear how well they wack it (this isnt a gaurentee like, but when your exsperienced you get a 'feel for it' and the hunting side confirms or disproves in use).

edit in, missed the vital bit, DONT get caught up in 'mines more powerful than yours trap' the limit is 12fp's to be legal.. arueing over 0.1 or 0.2 fps is pissing in the wind at this end of the power scheme lol.. 10.5-11.5 is your target setting on hunting to 60 yards, when you 'tune all aspects' of your gun to accuracy you'll notice a huge improvement to your range and overall average on hunting, when forsake all else to get 11.999999 fp's your pritty much gaurentied to miss most and fall foul to the law..

basically with out testing it your self your eather at the mercy of the advert god (because as you dont know you'll get milked dry) or, your going on trust in a good gun smith, the endings the same though, you gotta use and see for yourself.
